Your First Apartment Checklist For Carmel

You discovered the best place with the right floor plan for your first apartment. Now, you filled out the agreement, put your stuff in boxes, and you’re ready to move into your new place. However, knowing what items you’ll want for your new apartment can be tricky. What should you think about for your first apartment checklist for Carmel?

Here’s a short list of the basics that you should have when you move in. You might be able to take some of these basic items from your old home, but other things might take a trip to IKEA or Carmel’s local furniture outlet. Online stores such as Ebay are good places to find things at, too. We’ll also provide you with a brief list of helpful items that can make independent living easier.

  • Sheets

  • Bed quilt or comforter

  • Bedframe

  • Armoire or dresser

Carmel First Apartment Checklist: The Family Room

The living room is the space where you’ll spend most of your time. It’s also the room where you’ll have friends and family sit in (although many get-togethers end up in the kitchen).

  • Couch or a few comfy chairs

  • Additional seating

  • Coffee table

  • Entertainment center or TV stand

  • TV

Also nice:

Carmel First Apartment Checklist: The Kitchen/Dining Room

The kitchen is easier to know what you need for a first-time renter because most of your large essentials -- such as the stove, refrigerator, and dishwasher -- are already in your apartment. You only really need a table and chairs for the dining area, but be sure it seats at least four people. Even if you live by yourself, it’s good to have enough space to eat with friends or family.

  • Dining table and chairs (for at least 4)

  • Silverware, plates, and glasses (4 place settings)

  • Mugs

  • Mixing spoon, can opener, spatula

  • Microwave-if not provided

  • A good skillet or frying pan

  • A cookie sheet

  • A good chef knife

  • Pot for boiling water

  • Oven mitts

Also Nice:

  • Shelves or a buffet for holding extra dishes

  • Coffee pot

  • Cooking spices

  • Dish soap and scrub brush

  • Food storage containers

  • Potato peeler, cheese grater, and other well-used items

  • A full knife set

  • Mixing bowls and measuring cups

  • Food -- It’s always good to move in with a fully-stocked kitchen

Carmel First Apartment Checklist: The Bathroom

The bathroom won’t need too much, as the bath tub, sinks, toilets, and medicine cabinets will be there already. If you’re stocking a guest bathroom, it only requires toilet paper, soap, and a hand towel. There are only a few essentials needed in your main or master bath but not as many as in your other rooms.

  • Toilet paper

  • Hand soap

  • Toothpaste, toothbrush, and other individual sundries

  • Shampoo

  • Bath and hand towels

  • Shower liner, curtain, and hooks

  • Toilet brush

Also Nice:

  • Shower mat

  • Over the door hooks for towels and bathrobes

  • Cup or toothbrush holder

  • Laundry detergent

  • Compact tool set which includes a flathead screwdriver, Phillips head screwdriver, hammer, and small wrench
